Kiss of wine

Five wine styles to convince your beer-drinking buddies

We all have that one friend who doesn’t like wine. As astonishing as that might seem, Kiss of Wine still love our beer-drinking friends too. After all, there are so many of them! According to a UK government survey, almost 30 million people over the age of 16 drink beer!

So, if you’ve got some die-hard beer drinkers in your life, or you’re ready to switch over to some wine yourself, read on. This is a quick guide to the fun and fancy side of evening drinks that’ll have you falling over yourself to join wine night.

sparkling rosé wine and lager

Sparkling Wine…

for the Lager drinker

Bubbles. It makes sense that a light and fresh sparkling wine would be a good place to start. Best served to your uncomplicated beer-drinking friends because standard lager, too, are light and fresh. Although, not just any sparkling will do. Make sure they’re dry. Brut is the word you’re looking for when perusing the wine shelves.

sauvignon blanc and pale ale

Sauvignon Blanc…
for a Pale Ale fan

Check out a Sauvignon Blanc for its famously grassy and citrus flavours that may remind you of pale or blonde ale. With their slight hops, they’re a bit heavier than your standard lager, aligning them well with a Sauvignon Blanc, a slightly heavier wine.

A light-bodied red may also work if that’s more your jam. In that case, try the famous Pinot Noir.

Chardonnay and Wheat Beer

Chardonnay…

for a Wheat Beer drinker

If you’re further up the hops scale, check out an oak-aged Chardonnay. Like wheat beer, it can be smooth, creamy and sometimes even sweet. Oak-aged Chardonnay is buttery and may even throw you some lemon or vanilla for good measure.

You can check out a delicious Chardonnay right here

But be warned, our Chardonnay is aged in stainless steel and will give you a crisp and mineral flavour (quite the opposite of a wheat beer!).

Riesling and IPA

Riesling…

for an IPA aficionado

Love them or hate them, many people are privy to the bold hops, sweet fruits and bitterness of IPA. In that case, you should check out a dry Riesling. Be careful though, the keyword here is dry, bone dry. A dry Riesling has the flavour and zing that might just tempt a die-hard craft beer fan away from their IPA.

Tempted? Check out our (not quite bone) dry Riesling here!

Cabernet Sauvignon and Dark Ale

Cabernet Sauvignon…
for Dark Ales

For the hardcore dark beer drinker growing hair on their chest, try a Cabernet Sauvignon. Dark ales, generally, have earthy, dark fruit flavours which align with the dark fruits, oak and tannins of a good cab sav. They tend to go great with the same foods too — steak, stews and all things rich.

And that’s that! Still love beer? We forgive you, but we also hope you’ll at least try some of our suggestions. Broaden your horizons and always ensure you have options. After all, beer and wine are best friends and it’s fun to be flexible.
